Weapons Training

Long Pole & Butterfly Knives

At the higher levels of the Wing Chun system, the Wing Chun Alliance introduces students to classical weapons work. These traditional tools serve not only as combat methods but also as powerful ways to sharpen coordination, structure, intention, and internal power.

Luk Dim Boon Gwan — The Long Pole

The Six-and-a-Half Point Pole is one of the most iconic and demanding parts of advanced Wing Chun. Long Pole training emphasizes whole-body power, stability, and precision. By learning to issue force through a long and heavy weapon, practitioners develop strong stances, unified body mechanics, and the ability to generate explosive power from the ground up.

Students Develop:

Bart Cham Dao — Butterfly Swords

In the final stages of the system, students progress to the Bart Cham Dao, the double short swords of Wing Chun. Training with these blades teaches advanced footwork, sharp angles, strict timing, and aggressive forward intent. This weapon greatly refines precision, reflexes, and close-range efficiency.

Advanced Internal Training

Wing Chun contains a deep internal component, which becomes more evident as students reach the upper levels of practice—especially in Long Pole work and Biu Jee.

Training Includes:

The Long Pole serves as a powerful link between Wing Chun’s internal and external training. Through its practice, students learn to unify breath, movement, and intent, allowing them to generate force that is focused, connected, and fully controlled.

I started practicing Wing Chun nearly a decade ago, choosing it because its concepts interested me far more than Judo or Karate.
